One of the hits of our first Class 37 production run was D6704 in BR green with full yellow ends, which quickly established itself among the fastest selling versions and suprised us by outstripping liveries that we expected to be more popular. Thus we'd be remiss in not including a centre headcode version in the second run and our chosen subject is D6956, another stalwart South Wales freight machine. New to 86A Cardiff Canton in January 1965 and then to Swansea Landore in 1972, it was renumbered 37256 two years later and remained on the WR at Bristol Bath Road from 1983 until rebuilt by Crewe as 37678 in 1987. Another non-boiler loco, while this release shares the same nose configuration as D6600 it correctly rides on Deltic-style cast bogies.

  • Heavy die-cast metal chassis

What a Beast

I love class 37's since riding around with my dad in the 70's i never go to go on this one but it is a wonderful machine. It has so many hide gems of detail, it took till now to do the review. From the desk lighting to sound quality it's amazing and i can't wait for next years models.

Didn’t work properly when first powered up (DCC). Seems to be ok know but it remains unclear what functions, like desk light, I should expect. The documentation doesn’t make it clear.

Great Model

Brilliant model from Accurascale. Absolute wealth of detail for the most part perfectly fitted (aside from one bent lamp iron). Model ran flawlessly and I am very impressed with the speaker fitted, put my other sound locos to shame. Snazzy packaging that kept loco safe, including the outer packaging which was fully recyclable, which I love. Masses of information provided with the model which I enjoyed reading. Absolute beauty, looking forward to future releases.

Beautiful model - but with a few hiccups

I had long awaited this model and believed this to be the ultimate class 37. On arrival I was not disappointed. Heavy and loaded with detail. However, there were a couple of hiccups. Firstly, on start up the sound would suddenly cut out. Usually a second attempt to start was all that was required. I would've said dirty track, but the engine ran without the sound. My second issue was on a passing loop, approaching a standard Hornby turn-out. At slow speed it toppled on its side! It continued to do so time after time , so I can only run this engine on the main loop (third radius). I put this down to poor track work - except that all other locos, including the Bachmann Class 37 take this point with no issue. I did some research on Youtube, and discovered there were other people similarly affected. Sadly, I will not be extending my fleet of Accurascale 37's, and I now have concerns for the Class 55, 31 and Class 50 I have on pre-order. I am not a technical person, and believe a model of this quality should work properly straight out of the box. I do not involve myself with 'wheel tolerances' or changing CV's just to get the standard sound effects. Still it is a nice model, and that is why I have given 4 stars instead of 3.

Class 37’s

A fantastic looking model overall and runs very smoothly. The only issue I have is the headcode lighting. Unfortunately there are only leds lighting up the outer characters not the centre ones which lets down the overall model slightly hence 4 stars
