Designed specifically for the accurascale Class 31 locomotive, this decoder works seamlessly with the onboard lighting, PowerPack stay-alive system and dual speaker configuration to reproduce the characteristic sound and function of an Deltic  at work.

    Sound

    The LokSound 5 decoder can reproduce up to 10 channels simultaneously. Each channel offers up to 16 Bit / 31250 kHz and thus we have finally achieved hi-fi sound quality on your layout. For all practical purposes one cannot detect any difference to the original. A class D audio power amplifier with up to 3W output power feeds the speakers with a permitted impedance of 4 – 32 Ohms. The huge 128 MBit sound memory assures sufficient storage capacity.

    The volume of all individual sound fragments may be adjusted separately. The outstandingly flexible sound engine without a rigid flow chart facilitates a prototypical simulation of all conceivable rail vehicles. Three separately adjustable braking functions and two alternative load scenarios provide you with maximum control of your vehicles.

    Functions

    We are quite aware that you want your locomotives to be as realistic as possible. Therefore we have packed many function outputs into it.  Subject to the type of interface every LokSound 5 has at least 10 amplified outputs. The decoders with PluX22 or 21MTC interface have an additional 4 outputs for controlling servos or as logic outputs. Of course, all important lighting functions are supported. The brightness of each output may be adjusted separately. The decoder supports the automatic push and pull movements – known as the coupler waltz - required for reliable operation of digital couplers such as the ones by ROCO® and Krois® as well as Telex® couplers.

    Motor control

    Motor control of the LokSound 5 has been further improved. A variable PWM pulse frequency ranging from 10 kHz to 50 kHz assures perfect silent operation, particularly for coreless motors. Thus the typical hum is a thing of the past. Load control can now be adjusted with up to 10 separate CVs and thus will manage even the most difficult cases. The unique “Auto Tune” function facilitates the automatic calibration of the decoder to perfectly match the motor. The LokSound 5 decoder supplies up to 1.5A motor current, which is quite sufficient even for older motor types.

Sound, and lots of it !

Having bought a DC ready, not DCC fitted, Class 31 as I thought I didn't want sound, I changed my mind having seen a few YouTube reviews so ordered the decoder and speaker. Fitting both was easy - the DIP switches needed to be set before fitting the speaker - the encoder was simple to fit due to the magnetic cover (what a sensible idea).

Once fitted, the loco went onto my programming track and I had a play - lights, great (including instrument lights in the cab). Sound was deep and throaty on the engine noise, then there was a myriad of other sounds I didn't expect. Magnificent.

Not cheap, but worth the asking price so excellent value.

Class 31 sound decoder

Absolutely fantastic. Perfectly complements the new class 31 model! I tried to go with a HM7000 decoder first which works fine with the new 31 but just didn’t really hit the spot. Great work Accurascale, quality products as always.

Brings the loco to life

Very easy to fit the decoder via the roof hatch and the sound is great. Also lovely to have access to the whole suite of lighting possibilities on the loco. The Accurathrash speaker wouldn't fit through the roof hatch and I had to take the body off to fit it - which meant being very careful around some of the detail parts. The speaker was also slightly too long to fit into the space provided so I had to hacksaw off the end of one of its lugs. Not a problem for a modeller but worth bearing in mind. Definitely worth the effort though!

Great sound file

Firstly, this is a great sound file and there is no doubt about it. But I just can’t give any sound chip from any company 5 star due to the original costs of chips. It’s not an Accurascale issue, it’s an issue I have with sound chip manufacturers.

I also don't understand how an item listed on the website as In Stock can take 2 months to be delivered. If it's not actually in stock please list it as preorder like your other stuff (still waiting for an "in stock" class 30 chip I ordered in August that wasn't actually in stock but on order and it's November)
