The arrival of 66001 on to British soil at 08:53 on the 18th of Aprill 1998 heralded a new dawn for British rail freight, the first of several hundred locomotives of a type that would revolutionise Railfreight across the UK (and Europe). There were a few subtle differences between the first two and the rest of the production batch which have never been replicated before on a model. Firstly the lashing eyes to secure the locomotive to the ship were in a different position to later models. The horn grille was also mounted almost flush with the body. Visually 66001 looked more striking owing to its red grilles which were later changed to black.

Our Class 66 model is based on the award winning ‘accura-standard’ platform, with all-wheel powered six-axle bogies, a powerful twin flywheel fitted motor and market leading electronics package.

What have we here, says you. Well it is part 1 of two locomotives from Accurascale scale named the first and last exclusives. The Class 66 is one of the biggest locomotive fleet ever built to run on UK tracks. This one EWS 66001 in their Maroon/Gold livery being the first in the number built. As per usual with the manufacturer it is of exquisite detail, printing and running performance. As a fan of the EWS livery and branded rolling stock I had to buy this beautifully presented locomotive. One can do no wrong in having a couple of this class engine running around a layout.

Class 66 (66001)

This is the second Class 66 Diesel I have purchased from Accurascale, and as with the first model, the level of detail is superb. The colour scheme is very impressive. There was a slight issue with Royal Mail in that they lost my parcel in transit, but having contacted Accurascale this issue was resolved. Consequently, the delivery time was longer than expected (three and half weeks).

Wonderful model

I have several of the Hattons Sheds and I was keen to see the results of the Accurascale magic wand - and I was not not surprised. Excellent detail and a superb model in every way. Will Accurascale be selling any 'upgrade' parts for the old Hattons model? I hope it is possible!

Wow, Accurascale, the punked up Hatton's models are superb. The body livery colours of the EWS are bright and bold. Chrisp edges and fine lining are prevalent all around the locomotive. The detailing, well, what can I say, Accurascale really do put a lot of effort into their releases. A look along the sole bar at the fine cable/conduits etx are outstanding, as is the norm from the company. With so much detail to look at, they are an impressive model loco to see. The Class 66s are defaintly not the first and last to come from Accurascale's warehouses in the future.
