Datgelwyd ym mis Chwefror 1996 mewn digwyddiad yn Toton TMD, 31407 o bosibl oedd y locomotif mwyaf syfrdanol i gael ei ragori yn lliwiau tŷ glas deniadol Mainline Freight, un o’r tri gweithredwr cludo nwyddau cysgodol preifateiddiedig a ddeilliodd o’r busnes cludo nwyddau Trainload ym 1994. Tra bod fflyd Dosbarth 31 yn y broses o gael ei rhedeg i lawr, dewiswyd y locomotif hwn oherwydd bod ei allu i gyflenwi trên trydan a'i frecio dan wactod yn ei gwneud yn bartner perffaith ar gyfer salŵn arsylwi DB999504. Er gwaethaf hyn, gwelodd yn bennaf gyflogaeth ar ddyletswyddau seilwaith, symud teithwyr o East Anglian a theithiau rheilffordd cyn cael ei thynnu'n ôl ym mis Medi 1998.
